CPBC DOCTRINAL STATEMENT
The articles of faith and teaching of this Church are as follows:
- A. We believe that the Scripture of the Old and New Testaments is verbally inspired of God and is without error in the original writings, and believe it is the supreme and final authority in the matter of faith, daily life, and final destiny. (II Tim. 3:16; I Peter 1:22-23; II Peter 1:21.)
- B. We believe in God eternally existing in three persons; namely, Father, Son, Holy Spirit. (II Cor. 13:14; Matt. 3:16-17; Heb. 1:1- 2; Gen. 1:1-2; John 1:1-3.)
- C. We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of Mary when she was still virgin and that He is true God and true Man. (Luke 1:31-35; John 14:7-11, 10:30; I Tim. 2:15; I John 5:20.)
- D. We believe that man was created by God from the dust of the earth in God's image, but that when Adam sinned, death passed upon him: physical, spiritual, and eternal death; and that such death has passed upon all men, for that all men have sinned and come short of the glory of God. All men are born with a sinful nature which makes them sinners in thought, word, and deed. (Gen. 1:26-27, 2:7; Rom. 5:12, 3:23; Job 15:14, 25:4; Eccl. 7:20; Rom. 3:10-12.)
- E. We believe that the only escape from the penalty and power of sin is to repent of our sins and receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith; He, who alone is our Sacrifice and Substitute, having suffered the wrath of God for us, and whose blood cleanses us from all sin. This salvation is a free gift, "not of works, lest any man should boast." (John 1:29, 10:27-30; Heb. 9:26, 10:10-14; I John 1:7; II Cor. 5:21; Luke 13:3; Eph. 2:8-9, Rom. 4:4-5, 16.)
- F We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of Jesus Christ, and His ascension into Heaven, where He is now seated at the Father's right hand, as our only High Priest and Intercessor. (John 20:24-29; I Peter 3:21-22; Heb. 9:24, 7:25; I Cor. 15:3-7.)
- G We believe that this same Jesus Christ will return to the Earth as He left it, and will set up His thousand years, and the day and hour of His return no man knows. (Acts 1:10-11; Psa. 2; Rev. 19:11-16, 20:4-6; Matt. 24:36.)
- H. We believe that all who repent of their sins and receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ, who died and rose for them, will become children of God, being born again by the Holy Spirit. We also believe that all such are members of the true church or the body of Jesus Christ which knows no bound of denomination or section. (John 1:11-13, 3:5-6; Eph. 4:4-6, 1:13-14, 5:25-27; John 10:27-29; I Cor. 12:12-13.)
- I. We believe that the Scriptures teach that all believers are to be baptized by water and we preach and practice immersion. Baptism symbolizes the believer's identity with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection, and is a public testimony of the believer's own death to his old life of sin and emergence into his new life in Christ. (Matt. 29:19-20; Mark 16:15-16; Rom. 6:34; Acts 8:36-38, 2:41-42.)
- J. We believe the Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience, whereby through partaking of the bread and the juice of grapes, believers memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming. This should be preceded by solemn self- examination as often as you observe it until He comes. (Matt. 28:18-20; Luke 22:14-20; Acts 8:35-39, 16:31-33; Rom. 6:4-6.)
- K We believe that sanctification is threefold: First, that our standing in Christ is now perfect (II Cor. 5:21; Heb. 10:10-14). Second, that our daily walk is imperfect, but we must endeavor to grow in grace (II Cor. 7:1-11; II Peter 3:18; Phil. 3:10-12). Third, that we shall be made perfect like Christ when we see Him face to face. (I John 3:2; Phil. 3:20-21; I Cor. 15:51-53).
- L We believe that the heathen, even though they have never heard the Gospel, are still lost and that it is the tremendous responsibility of every child of God to do all he can to see that they hear the Gospel which alone can save. (Rom. 1:18-20; Mark 16:15-16; John 14:6; Acts 4:12.)
- M. We believe that all who have been saved by faith in Jesus Christ shall be raised from the dead into everlasting blessedness, and that all others shall be raised from the dead into everlasting conscious punishment in Hell. (I Thess. 4:13-18; Rev. 20:4-6, 11:15.)
- N. We believe in the dispensational view of Bible interpretation, but reject the extreme teaching known as Hyper Dispensationalism. The Lord's table and water baptism are to be observed by the church in this age. (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 2:41-42; I Cor. 11:23- 26.)
- O. We believe that Scripture teaches God’s plan for marriage to be the exclusive joining of one naturally-born man and one naturally-born woman for life. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between one naturally-born man and one naturally-born woman. We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female, and thus any sex change would be an offense to Him. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bi-sexuality, incest, fornication, adultery, pedophilia, pornography, and bestiality are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex. We believe that these defined sins should be dealt with as with any other sins — with love for the sinner, instruction in truth, admonishment to repentance, encouragement, and accountability. (Gen. 1:26-27; Gen. 2:18-25; Lev. 18:1-30; Lev. 20:15,16; Ps. 101:2-3; Matt. 5:28, Matt. 15:19-20; Matt. 18:6; Rom. 1:26-29; I Cor. 5:1; 6:9-11,18; 7:2; I Thess. 4:3-5; Heb. 13:4; Acts 3:19; Gal. 6:1; James 5:19-20; Ez. 33:8.)
- P. We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. This includes pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other state or condition from conception through natural death. Abortion constitutes the unjustified, unexcused taking of unborn human life. We believe the taking of innocent human life is a moral evil, regardless of the intent. An act or omission which, of itself or by intention, causes death in order to eliminate suffering is contrary to the will of God. However, discontinuing medical procedures that are extraordinary or disproportionate to the expected outcome can be a legitimate refusal of over-zealous treatment. (Job 31:15; Psalm 139:14-16; Is. 49:1,5; Jer. 1:5; Luke 1:44; Ex. 20:13; 23:7; Matt. 5:21)
